Flat-steel stringer stairs in arched design

Sculptural flat-steel stringer stairs

In the reopened COMCENTER in Erfurt the two-flight flat-steel stringer stairs fascinate as a bespoke piece of design.

Project description

COMCENTER celebrates comeback

As an attractive business location, the COMCENTER, which is run by the Landesentwicklungsgesellschaft Thüringen mbH, reopened its doors in summer 2022 after a comprehensive modernisation phase. The event building is located centrally in Erfurt’s Brühl district and offers professional conference and meeting facilities for digital, hybrid and analogue events. A wide range of equipment, acoustic walls and creative furniture enable open and variable working formats for up to 180 people in a relaxed atmosphere. LEG Thüringen, whose headquarters are located directly adjacent, is responsible for business development and real estate management in the Free State and is committed to the further development of the investment and technology location.

Flat-steel stringer stairs for high-tech location

With their dominating appearance the self-supporting flat-steel stringer stairs link the bottom and ground floor of the conference and congress centre, where workshops, meetings and conferences as well as specialised trade fairs are hosted. The interior design features raw concrete and plain surfaces contrasting with black steel, wood and colourful accents. As a sculptural installation, the flat steel stringer stairs with rounded intermediate landing meet the existing spatial situation of the original 20-year-old administration building and set strong highlights with design and material. On the ground floor, analogous to the black flat-steel stringers, a ceiling railing was realised to cover the pulpit, which is part of the DenkDeck designed as a co-working space.

  • stair head landing made of flat-steel featuring stair stringers continuing on both sides
  • all welding seams realised inside the flat-steel stringer stairs
  • weight of upper flight + stair head landing: approx. 1,900 kg, intermediate landing: approx. 1.400 kg, bottom flight approx. 1,700 kg
