Staircase in the foyer of the Commerzbank Munich
It is obviously the curved underside cladding made of perforated steel sheet which highlights the extraordinary character of this steel stringer staircase in the foyer of the Commerzbank in Munich. Like a spiral it coils itsself evenly rounded from the basement to the second floor.
Staircase with flat-steel stringers

Construction of the staircase stringers
- made of two flat-steel stringers obscuring the tread steps
- thickness of the stair stringers: 12 mm
- height of the stringers: 350 mm
Tread steps and landing construction of the staircase
- box-type profile with footfall sound insulation
- u-shaped trough-type steps with tapered front edge, triple folded for a sound insulation filling
- inside stiffening profiles in the landing construction, non-visible and according to structural requirements
- drilling holes for the cabling ensures the illumination of the risers. The latter were made of 8mm thick single-pane safety glass, matt and sandblasted
- aluminium protection profile for the step edge, silver anodised
Balustrade for the staircase
- double flat steel posts, spray-lacquered
- balustrade filling made of stainless steel cross belts
- wooden handrail, beech steamed, with underside groove
- frame made of evenly rounded steel sheet
- z-shaped frame to line the slab edge and to provide a connection to the flooring
