Project description
High-end railing solutions for Nash Suites Airport Hotel in Geneva
Located close to the United Nations headquarters and just a few minutes from Geneva city centre, the exclusive four-star airport hotel welcomes its guests with international flair. 177 rooms and versatile facilities offer business travellers as well as families and holidaymakers a pleasant stay and comprehensive service at the highest level. The interior style of the hotel combines modernity and comfort and is characterised by high-quality materials and first-class design. The steel balustrades with integrated LED handrail lighting running along the concrete staircases across ten floors and the all-glass railings on the single storeys blend consistently into the upscale interior concept.
Modern steel balustrades and all-glass railings
MetallArt designed curved parapet-high steel balustrades for the existing staircases of the four-star hotel, which, in addition to their attractive appearance, ensure fall protection. They run along both sides of the stair flights and the intermediate landings and are constructed in an evenly rounded and ascending style. As an innovative design element, the stainless steel handrail with LED lighting complements the construction. To mask the view to the concrete substructure, the steel sheets of the stair railings were extended downwards. From the ground floor to the top floor of the building, the MetallArt experts installed curved all-glass railings along each of the round ceiling edges.

Project details
Steel balustrades featuring LED lighting solution
The steel balustrades for the staircase complex consist of steel frames made of approx. 10-15 cm thick steel sheet. To provide complete visual cladding for the concrete stair elements, they were extended downwards and attached to the raw staircase with welded-on steel angles. An elegant white lacquer finish was applied to lend the steel balustrades their attractive appearance.
On each side of the steel balustrades runs a stylish handrail made of stainless steel round tube measuring approximately 42 mm in diameter. The sophisticated indirect LED lighting system is particularly impressive due to the completely flush integration of the LED spots on the underside of the round stainless steel handrails. For optimal illumination of the walking area, the spotlights were mounted at an angle to the vertical. The light intensity can be adjusted by a dimmer.
Compelling concept for glass railings
To create a transparent look, MetallArt realised curved all-glass balustrades at the ceiling slabs on each floor. The individual panes with ground edges are made of laminated safety glass, each 20 mm thick and up to 1,600 mm long. They run horizontally in an even rounded design along all ceiling edges up to the 8th floor. On the ground floor, they feature two short ascending sections.
Elaborate assembly technology for all-glass railings
The MetallArt specialists installed the glass railings using a specially developed assembly technique. For this purpose, the curved glass panes were inserted without constraint into the lower glass pocket, which was manufactured as a flat-steel ceiling frame with a steel angle attached on the inside. The fixing was done by gluing and subsequent elastic sealing with an EPDM rubber profile. The parapet construction was supplemented with stainless steel round tubes at the top. In addition to protecting the glass edges, they serve as discreet handrails of the finest quality.
Beside the supply and assembly, MetallArt provided also for the calculation and production of the verifiable structural analysis for the steel balustrades and the glass railings.
