Design stairs in elegant white colouring
Interior stairs as optical highlight

Project description
Balustrade stringer stairs at Augsburg Beethovenpark
The curved design stairs in discreet white integrate harmoniously into the light-flooded ambiance of the office building at the Beethovenpark in Augsburg.
Due to their structural supporting soffit lining and the parapet-high balustrade steel stringers the self-supporting design stairs get a distinctive sculptural appearance.
Balustrade radii of the design stairs
The challenge when developing the design stairs was to cope with the transitions of the tight radii to the landing platforms and the balustrades at the slab edges. On the basis of their long-term experience and comprehensive expertise the staircase experts of MetallArt however created and realised this constuction without any problems. Two balustrade radii were executed as a quarter circle and two other in semicircle design.
Illuminated wooden handrail as an eye-catcher
White furniture featuring wooden elements is completely in line with the current trend and that combination, realised together with our partner company Tegethoff Treppenbau GmbH & Co. KG, also appears with these design stairs: The wooden handrail with a diameter of 50 mm was executed in European oak. In addition the MetallArt experts carried out a groove at the bottom side of the wooden handrails allowing for the LED handrail lighting which was installed on site.

Self-supporting design stairs with landing platforms
The visual highlight in the entrance area of the building are the design stairs with parapet-high flat-steel stringers on both sides. They captivate the visitors with an appearance all in white. The regular curved construction of the design stairs with a flight width of up to 1,400 mm runs from the ground floor to the 2nd storey. The two landing platforms of the design stairs, concreted on site, give access to the upper floors.
- 45 risers
- 43 steps
- Thickness of the stringers: approx. 12 – 15 mm or where structurally necessary
- Height of the stringers: approx. 1,420 – 1,470 mm
- Tread steps combined in folded and trough design, made of approx. 5 – 6 mm thick steel sheet (the final cover was laid on site)
Between the inner and outer stringers (approx. 800 mm or 3,600 mm) MetallArt welded on the steel treads. The self-supporting design stairs, realised in compliance with DIN 18065 and EN1090 EXC2, was anchored to the sustainable raw floor.
Imposing steel soffit lining for a representative look
One special feature of the design stairs is the steel underside soffit with its homogeneous and smooth surface. During the assembly the MetallArt technicians welded the precisely moulded steel sheets evenly between the stringers at the bottom side of the design stairs. The steel soffit lining corresponds to the stairs run and beside the visual effect it improves the statics as well as the vibration behaviour of the design stairs in a signifcant way.
In addition to the production of the design stairs MetallArt supplied the verifiable structural analysis for the staircase and the steel balustrades.
